SWEAT, my another favorite product that I have been using for almost a year now. This product aims to provide a platform where users can work out anywhere, anytime, even using no equipment. There are a few options for different workout types, like yoga, barre, HIIT, weight-lifting. In addition, it recently launched multiple low-impact programs that are very suitable for beginners or those who want to restart their workout journey.

We can break down the user segments into these groups:

  1. Those who want to start/restart their fitness journeys
  2. Those who want to keep active
  3. Those who want to focus on the weight-loss journey
  4. Those who want to focus on gaining strength

When I started the fitness journey with this app, the beginner program was very short; it was about four weeks. So the program was also still a little bit hard for a beginner. For someone who wants to keep track of the weight-loss journey, I have to use different applications to track my weight progress and nutrition intake. I use Myfitnesspal to track the workout calories burned, my calorie intake, and my weight progress.

But just like any other people who are making their fitness journey, after a while, boredom strikes. So I start to miss one session and then two and then a week and then a month. It started when I have this injury on my palm, a massive cut from a knife; it makes it difficult to do any movement that requires an effort from my palm, like the push-up, any weight-lifting, and any activity that involve pressure on the palm. SWEAT has this feature, replacement, but then I need to replace every movement one by one. One of the other problems is that there is no place to track how much weight we use on the weight lifting part.

Few solutions can probably address the problems that are mentioned:

  1. All-in-one solutions for weight loss monitoring include weight monitoring, calorie intake tracking, and calories burned tracking. Weight monitoring, where users can input the weight daily and see their progress accordingly, I saw few users suggesting this. Besides weight monitoring, we can also add a calorie intake target and track based on meals that we take every day, and this also should track the calories burned data that we get from syncing the workout data from our smartwatch.
  2. Adding bulk replacement from specific kinds of injuries, like knee, palm, arm, leg injuries, so that the session will automatically exclude any exercise that will put pressure on the injury.
  3. Having a goal-based notification for motivation. For example, the notification will say something like, hey, you are halfway through this week’s goals; let’s schedule the next session to reach your goals. The customized notification can also be suitable for the newly joined user to prevent them from churn.
  4. We can also have added a feature of adding an accountability buddy where you can do the session with your buddy. As of right now, most of the users have their accountability buddy from the forum. Having this capability in-app will likely help with user engagement.

We then estimate the impact and the effort for each of the ideas that we have by having qualitative analysis by conducting user research or focus group discussion. Once we have the impact effort matrix, we can then prioritize the deliveries accordingly.

The success metrics for the ideas above will most likely revolve around engagement and retention. However, on the experimentation execution, few success metrics that come to mind are:

  • Number of continued subscribers after the free trial
  • Number of completed workouts
  • Number of sessions and sessions duration
